Crisis management component and business continuity management: An empirical study on the Jordanian Ministry of Education

Abstract

This study examines the impact of crisis management components on business continuity management (BCM) within the Jordanian Ministry of Education, focusing on the perspectives of senior administrative personnel (department directors, unit managers, directorate managers, and heads of divisions). Given the growing complexity and frequency of organizational crises, the research aimed to assess how the dimensions of crisis management namely forecasting and detection, preparedness and prevention, containment, and recovery affect the Ministry’s ability to sustain critical operations. A quantitative, descriptive-analytical approach was employed using a structured questionnaire distributed to the entire study population of 193 supervisory-level staff. A total of 162 valid responses were obtained, achieving a response rate of 83.9%. Data was analyzed using SPSS, applying both descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression techniques. The findings revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between all crisis management components and BCM dimensions, including administrative support, risk assessment, business impact analysis, and awareness and training. Among the components, recovery and business impact analysis emerged as the most influential. These results highlight the importance of proactive crisis planning in enhancing institutional resilience and ensuring service continuity. The study recommends that the Ministry institutionalize early warning systems, conduct simulated crisis drills, strengthen recovery protocols, and invest in comprehensive training programs to equip teams with the skills and resources needed to effectively manage potential crises.
