Abstract

The social and emotional causes that have a profound impact on the increase in anxiety and depression in adolescents are numerous; therefore, it is necessary to implement programs to help students overcome or cope with these disorders. The objective of this article was to present the scope of psychoeducational interventions and cognitive-behavioral therapies to support adolescent students with anxiety and depression. Based on this objective, a systematic review of the literature was conducted, defining inclusion and exclusion criteria and planning search strategies. Studies published in the PubMed and Scopus databases were selected, and the search process was presented using the PRISMA diagram, showing texts published between 2014 and 2024 in English and Spanish. These results showed that during the years 2020 and 2022, a greater number of studies on the subject were published; in addition, the most widely used database was Scopus, with 45.45% of the total articles reviewed. All studies included psychoeducational programs and cognitive-behavioral therapy-based interventions for students with depression and anxiety problems. It is concluded that psychoeducation and cognitive-behavioral therapies are very effective in treating and providing the necessary support to adolescent students with anxiety and depression disorders. Noteworthy improvements in emotional regulation have been achieved through the use of mindfulness techniques, psychoeducation workshops, and online ICBT, among other methods.
