Abstract

This study aimed to construct and psychometrically validate a specialized classroom observation instrument for teachers of gifted students, centered on the Pentagram Strategy framework. Recognizing the scarcity of assessment tools tailored to high-ability instruction, the research employed a methodological-psychometric design to bridge gifted education theory with rigorous measurement standards. The instrument was developed within an integrated framework encompassing structured thinking, higher-order cognitive development, and contemporary evaluation standards. The final version of the observation card comprises five distinct dimensions reflecting the stages of the Pentagram Strategy: Problem Identification (What?), Meaning-Building and Motivation (Why?), Flexible Implementation (How?), Critical and Future-Oriented Thinking (What if?), and Authentic Assessment and Self-Reflection. To evaluate the tool’s effectiveness, it was administered to a sample of gifted education teachers and analyzed using advanced statistical techniques. Validity was established through Content Validity and Construct Validity via Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses (EFA/CFA). Reliability was rigorously confirmed using McDonald’s Omega and Composite Reliability indices. Furthermore, the application of the Rasch Measurement Model provided robust evidence of the card’s measurement precision and its capacity to differentiate between varying levels of instructional performance. The findings demonstrate that the observation card is a highly reliable, standardized instrument with strong convergent and discriminant validity. Consequently, this study offers a psychometrically sound resource for educational supervisors, researchers, and practitioners, providing a standardized basis for professional development and scientific evaluation within the field of gifted education.
