Evaluation in e-learning: Teachers' perspectives on current challenges

Abstract

Evaluation is an important aspect of learning, which becomes challenging during remote learning. The transformation and integration of E-learning accelerated the difficulty level among educational systems worldwide owing to persistent online assessment. This study aimed to analyze and determine significant issues and challenges faced by educational institutions in the evaluation process arising from the adoption of E-learning. A quantitative research method was employed to gather the data. Accordingly, a questionnaire was used for data collection. Eighty instructors of English as a foreign language (EFL) were included in the data collection of this study, and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The data analysis observed that evaluation methods during the implementation of learning in the practicing education system had become severely challenging for students and teachers to evaluate their learning and understand the outcomes of the learning process during online assessment. Findings exhibited that the lack of digital literacy, availability of various types of online material, discouraged students, and academic dishonesty were the most severe challenges during E-learning assessment. Moreover, it also emerged that the use of remote evaluation counters various issues, which necessitates the implementation of distant measures to address the validity issues of the evaluation process.
